Dilemma of Sound and Exercise

In change, random thoughts on December 28, 2007 at 12:38 am

I recently received a surprise gift, and am struggling to know how it can be invested.  I think the options have been narrowed down to two possibilities: an acoustic/electric guitar, or a road bicycle.

The argument in favor of a guitar is that I believe my relationship with God is moving in a more personal, intimate direction – maybe to balance my normally cerebral approach to spirituality.  I’ve tried learning guitar a couple of times, each has been progressively more successful, but it’s been almost a year since I’ve picked one up.  Then again, I’ve never personally owned one.  Maybe one of the reasons I’ve hit a wall is because I’ve resisted whatever might come of the discipline of forcing my fingers to learn the chords.

The argument in favor of a bike is that I get to ride with my two year-old, who has his own BMX-style ride with training wheels.  I dream of the day we can ride together and take in God’s beauty on four wheels.  It’s a bonding thing more than an exercise thing.  But admittedly, I need the exercise too.

So what to do?  Worship on strings, or worship on a chain?

  1. worship on a chain. Life is only once. So do something with your family is the most important.
